A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice that is inserted under your pet’s loose skin, on the back of their neck. This is a permanent and safe form of identification that gives the dog a unique code. This code is then registered on the microchip database as well as the owner’s details.
If your dog ever gets lost or stolen and then found by any entity that has a microchip scanner (dog wardens, vets, charities, etc.), the microchip can be scanned and provide the code that will lead to your contact details.

In order to encourage responsible pet ownership, the government announced that from April 2016 onwards all dogs in England would have to be microchipped. This means that all dog owners must now have their dog microchipped and registered on one of the authorised commercial databases, register the details of any new owner before they sell or give the dog away and keep their contact details up-to-date on the databases. Authorities hope that the law will help reunite strays with their owners and help tackle puppy farming.

If your pet is not microchipped yet don’t waste any more time as there is a hefty fine, and give us a call on 020 8653 3355 to make an appointment at your convenience.
