Meet Our Vets
Helen Spencer MRCVS
I grew up on a busy farm in Kent surrounded by animals, and becoming a vet was the only career I ever seriously considered. I feel very lucky to have been able to follow the path I dreamed of since a child, and to have the opportunity to run my own clinic.
I graduated from Bristol University in 1999, have worked here since 2003; and I am both Head Vet and Clinical Manager. Apart from my job as a vet, my other passion in life is travelling and I have worked as a vet in Morocco, Mali, Ethiopia, Jordan and India, and continue to mix work with my travels.
I have walked the length of New Zealand, been to Mt Everest Base Camp, trekked across part of Afghanistan, Yemen and recently become part of the first team to have ever succeeded in crossing Madagascar on foot.
I live with a large ginger rescue cat called Hobbs.
Carole MacColl MRCVS
I qualified from the University of Glasgow in 2011, and worked in a
variety of practices thoughout Scotland, England and Australia before
joining the team at Paxton Vets in 2016.
I enjoy all aspects of veterinary practice, but have a particular interest
in emergency medicine having completed further training in this area.
When I’m not in work I enjoy travelling, running, hillwalking and cooking.
Frankie Brookes-Hoy MRCVS
I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2014 and moved back to London where I grew up. Having worked in practices in the South East, I joined the Paxton Team in 2016.
I have a particularly strong interest in surgery.
Outside of work I enjoy scuba diving and sailing – I own a small sailing boat moored off the Kent Coast, which I have successfully managed to ground 3 times!
In the winter months you’ll find me practising my snowboarding skills in Europe.
Helen Harrison MRCVS
I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2016. After qualifying I remained in Bristol, working in a large veterinary hospital, before joining the team at Paxton’s in August 2017.
I have special interests in surgery and diagnostic imaging.
Outside of work I volunteer for the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA). Sketching, travelling and walking consumes the rest of my spare time and I often disappear to the beautiful South Devon countryside for weekend walks across Dartmoor with Magda (the family Labrador) in tow!
Lara Baker MRCVS
I qualified from the Royal Vet College in 2010 and joined the Paxton Vets team in 2014 after running a clinic sole charge for 2 years.
This means that I have built up a wealth of experience in both medicine and surgery across the species, but I am particularly interested in Neurology. I work at Paxton Vets as a regular locum.
I am a keen traveller, and own two gorgeous dogs called Navy and Zephyr who sometimes come to work with me.
